As a florist, I'm supposed to love color... and I do! But I also love black. Oh, how I love black! I especially love black and white. (Black and white stripes was even one of my wedding "colors".) So when I was contacted by Lindsey Lutz of Life Lutzurious, and she explained to me her vision for an ultra modern black, white and metallic party for her son's 1st birthday, I was so excited to be a part of it!
I had never met Lindsey before, but one glance at her website was all it took for me to realize that she has EXQUISITE taste. Her blog focuses on high fashion with the occasional post on interior design or entertaining. If any of those things are of interest to you, I highly recommend checking it out! She's the real deal too. When I delivered the flowers to her house, I saw first hand how amazing her taste is. Her style is black and white, edgy, moody, and ultra-mod... In layman's terms, I turned into that emoji that has hearts for eyes.
Back to the party... Lindsey asked me to make a hanging garland to frame out her photo wall, and several plant based arrangements that had succulents and cacti as the focal points. These little arrangements would serve as tiny pops of color in the otherwise black and white party. She wanted the arrangements to be very modern, not girly, and evoke a lot of interest.
SO... I put together a palette of succulents, cactus, billy balls, scabiosa pods, silver lace dusty miller. brunia berries, eucalyptus, and moss. Every element was intentionally selected for either it's silvery color, or it's extremely interesting shapes and textures... and the billy balls, well those were just for fun! Who doesn't love a perfectly round, bright yellow ball of a flower for a child's birthday party?! (Don't worry, I got clearance from Lindsey before picking such a bold addition.) Finally, Lindsey picked out some beautiful assorted vases from CB2 for the arrangements to go in, which completed the whole look.
